Paintball Madness Strucks Ngee Ann Polytechnic Student

Sebastian Wong, a Ngee Ann Polytechnic student, who is quiet by nature and shy in public, held a paintball marker in Ngee Ann Polytechnic on 20 Nov 2008. He pulled the trigger and fired a few dry-shots in the canteen which turned the heads of the students having lunch, some with noodles swaying half-slurped from their mouths. Backed by 4 other Ngee Ann Polytechnic students, they embarked on their paintball awareness campaign in front of a paintball-equipment clattered booth which they have set up.

Paintball and this student group’s paths crossed when they were playing paintball at Red Dynasty Paintball Park in October 2008. Attracted by the excitement of the sports and relentless introduction by the instructors at Red Dynasty, they got hooked by paintball and decided to merge studies with interest. The Fantastic Five, Sebastian, Wei Na, Jian Bin, Shi Wei and Farhan, to set up a paintball booth in Ngee Ann Polytechnic as part of their module, I&E Events Management which required them to work with an external party to do a promotional/sales project.

Into his 2nd year of studies in Diploma of Aerospace Technology, Sebastian is part of Ngee Ann Outward Bounders and Ngee Ann Shooting Club in which he is taking up the position of Event Manager in the club for the coming year. He quipped, “My first project is to introduce paintball to Ngee Ann Polytechnic students. The paintball introduction session is set on 15 Dec 2008 (Monday) at 9.30am. Each participant only has to pay $20 to try out paintball!”

KING was also present to lend his support to their project and spent his day sharing paintball stories especially on World Cup Asia which took place recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 14-17 Nov 2008. ELLE, from the Paintball Association of Singapore, preached about the importance of creating awareness of the sports and a positive paintballing culture Singapore with emphasis on sportsmanship and team-to-team camaraderie.

Throughout the campaign, Sebastian and his team passed some free paintballs among the onlookers who were quite amused by the little orange gelatin balls. Until one of them flung it on the ground and splattered some paint on his friends. The ‘feud’ was eventually settled “out-of-court” by a few cans of Coca Cola. Nothing like a cold can of Coca Cola to sooth the nerves. It was a full 8-hour day of standing and answering queries on paintball before the team finally closed the booth, hopefully with an A distinction for their module and some potential paintball enthusiasts for their school.
